Christmas in Watery Lane
The rain has just stopped in time for the promised noon photograph. Two sons and Lucy visiting this year to wish you all a very Merry Christmas. The 1851 Inclosure Act defined the lane as a "Private Road or Carriageway" 12 feet wide. It has never been adopted by the council despite carrying water, gas, electric and sewerage services beneath, and being lit by gas (until recent conversion to sodium lamps). Pot holes are filled with rubble by the more able-bodied householders as and when needed.

Neither snow nor rain
Watery Lane in the snow.
Few made it through, but the postman always succeeds.
Bags are left outside the properties just in case the refuse and recycling vans get through.
The title is from the United States Postal Service creed:
"Neither snow nor rain nor gloom of night shall stay these
couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds"

Pitmaston Pineapple by the old air raid shelter
The old cherry tree has been removed and replaced with an apple tree called the Pitmaston Pineapple; a lovely little apple tasting slightly of pineapple.
The old air raid shelter has 12" thick brick walls and has been used as a supply of bricks, a children's Wendy house and is now a store for bee hives and associated equipment.

Peacock and Peahen
On Thursday evening we were disturbed by a raucous call. The Peahen was on the roof of a house in Watery Lane. There was an answering call from somewhere to the south-west. On Friday evening the pair were on our garden hedge, but soon moved to the safety of the ridge of next door's bungalow when threatened with a camera. We suspect the pair may be from Little Malvern Court

Watery Lane on Christmas Day
Christmas Day is often a beautiful sunny day and some years, as in this year, we have snow on the ground.
The bin men have been unable to get through to collect the refuse and recycling bags, but with sub-zero temperatures night and day it doesn't matter.

Peacock feeding in a garden
Since putting out wild bird food we've been honoured to have visits from many of the expected birds and some not so expected.
The latter includes:-
Freddy the cock pheasant who visits everyday,
a heron,
a sparrowhawk (a secondary feeder - we fatten up the sparrows for her/him)
and now a peacock.
