Ashmore Road, Woolwich, London SE18
Redevelopment of the former Military Academy buildings appears to be continuing, as evidenced by the blue plastic security fencing on the left. A security person's hut is also visible at the distant east gate, a gate that provides controlled access to this residential site from Red Lion Lane. The former Garrison Church (a.k.a. the academy chapel) of St Michael and All Angels (built 1902-04) - used by former officer cadets - is the red brick building on the right. Beyond the chapel is a block of apartments built in 2012 or 2013. .

The upper floors of the rear of Kitchener House from a pedestrianised area that the developers have named 'Southern Edge'. Ahead are the rear elevations of some of the apartments in one of the converted blocks that are still known as "West Cadets' Quarters". Behind the "West Cadets' Quarters" are the perimeter railings and Academy Road (a.k.a. the A205 or South Circular Rd). The glass-fronted door on the right is the entrance/exit door into a lift for the use of individuals moving between this level and "Village Square" level. Village Square is where the former church is located, a building that is to become a community arts and culture space.

This view of the rear of the redeveloped "West Cadets' Quarters" block show how the architects have added additional space to the ground floor accommodation by 'bolting on' these rectangular extension units. A utilities-related path can be seen sandwiched between the two wooden fences and in front of the fence nearest to the photographer is a driveway leading to the car park beneath a neighbouring apartment block. The front elevations of the "West Cadets' Quarters" face Well Hall Road (the A205) although there is a fair amount of open space between them and the perimeter railings.

Former Military Academy
A boarded-up entrance into The Great Hall and the East Lecture Hall in the central part of this former military training establishment for cadet officers. This private, gravelled road is now called Ashmore Road and it connects Red Lion Lane (behind the photographer) with Academy Road (a.k.a. the South Circular Road or the A205), although security gates at either end of it mean that it is not used as a public traffic route. It remains to be seen to what will become of the remaining former blocks although the principal developers have already committed themselves to providing "a large communal space with a big screen in The Great Hall".

The former Church of St Michael and All Angels (1902-04) is halfway along Ashmore Road, previously a 'military road', and it is currently being used as an on-site architect's office associated with the redevelopment of this former military academy. The whole site is being developed into a mixed complex of private, "affordable homes" and social housing. According to their promotional material the principal developers have already committed themselves to converting this particular building into an arts and culture centre providing studio space for local artists and an open space for the use of residents for exercise classes, art lessons and cultural events. Academy Road (the A205) lies at the end of this private, gravelled road and Red Lion Lane behind the photographer. Beyond the chapel is a recently completed apartment block.

Part of "The Great Hall" (the former Dining Room/s) and the entrance to the former "East Lecture House" from a higher part of the new development, looking across Ashmore Road. Ashmore road is a private, gravelled road between Red Lion Road on one side of the site and Academy Road (a.k.a. the South Circular Road or the A205) on the other, with security gates at each of the two entry/exit points. In the background is the central library building (c.1808) with its leaded ogee domed octagonal towers that was modelled on the White Tower of the Tower of London, where Sir James Wyatt - its architect - was based as Surveyor-General of the Ordnance.

An archway constructed in the "West Officers' Quarters" block of this former military training establishment for cadet officers. This picture was taken looking over the construction company's security fence. When and how this particular block will be developed is unclear however, the plans for the overall site refer to a mixture of private and "affordable" (or social) housing. Behind the photographer and beyond the perimeter railings lies Academy Road (a.k.a. the South Circular Road or the A205)
