A fine way to exploit a corner site. Built as Midland Bank in 1922 to the designs of J.B. Whinney. Typical bank style - Portland stone, rusticated ground floor and pairs of columns. Grade II listed. It is still a bank.

Oldham Road
The virtual end of the A62 into Manchester. At the bottom of Oldham Road on the corner of Swan Street is the former Midland Bank Image It was built of Portland stone in 1922 to the designs of J.B. Whinney and is Grade II listed. It is now a branch of the Habib Allied International Bank Plc. Mural on Cable Street
This mural by German artist Case was painted in 2016 as part of the Cities of Hope Festival in 2016. https://inspiringcity.com/2016/06/12/cities-of-hope-brings-some-of-the-worlds-top-street-artists-to-manchester/ German artist Case has a photorealistic style and this impactful piece can be found on Cable Street on the side of Swan Buildings facing Oldham Road Image The piece depicts a men resting in seeming exhaustion on a bar. Case is also part of the German based Maclaim Crew. Partnering with "Back on Track", a Manchester charity that enables disadvantaged adults to make lasting, positive changes in their lives. The man in the painting is called "A" a man who the project helps.

Old Factory Building on Cable Street
This mid/late nineteenth century brick building, which runs along Chadderton Street between Cable Street and Addington Street, is a Grade II listed building (Historic England List Entry Number: 1208255 https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1208255 ). Once an umbrella factory (https://manchesterhistory.net/manchester/tours/tour16/area16page32.html Manchester History Net), the ground floor has been occupied in more recent times by the Manchester Chinese Christian Church http://www.manchesterccc.org.uk/?page_id=1629 whose name is still above the door on Cable Street although the building itself now looks rather dilapidated and deserted.

Cable Street - Artwork on the Swan Buildings
The nineteenth century Swan Buildings forms a block bounded by Oldham Road, Cable Street, Cross Keys Street and Swan Street. The Cable Street/Cross Keys Street corner of the building still carries this striking artwork which was created for the 2016 Cities of Hope Festival https://inspiringcity.com/2016/06/12/cities-of-hope-brings-some-of-the-worlds-top-street-artists-to-manchester/ which brought nine renowned street artists to the city to create new landmarks of hope on walls across the Northern Quarter and surroundings. Sheffield-based Street artist Phlegm https://streetartsheffield.com/artists/phlegm is well known for his detailed black and white illustrations For Cities of Hope he addressed the theme of sustainability by painting a black and white image of a self-sustaining city encapsulated into a water bottle. The image is very detailed and intricate as is his usual style.

A closer look at the artwork on the side of the Swan Buildings (Image]). Band on the Wall
The night club was opened in the former George and Dragon on the corner of Swan Street and Oak Street in the 1930s and has since expanded next door into what was a Spirits Warehouse in 1888.
