The nineteenth century Swan Buildings forms a block bounded by Oldham Road, Cable Street, Cross Keys Street and Swan Street. The Cable Street/Cross Keys Street corner of the building still carries this striking artwork which was created for the 2016 Cities of Hope Festival https://inspiringcity.com/2016/06/12/cities-of-hope-brings-some-of-the-worlds-top-street-artists-to-manchester/ which brought nine renowned street artists to the city to create new landmarks of hope on walls across the Northern Quarter and surroundings. Sheffield-based Street artist Phlegm https://streetartsheffield.com/artists/phlegm is well known for his detailed black and white illustrations For Cities of Hope he addressed the theme of sustainability by painting a black and white image of a self-sustaining city encapsulated into a water bottle. The image is very detailed and intricate as is his usual style.
