St Columba's Church, Scarborough - north aisle
The architect obviously made the most of the constricted site which is roughly trapezoidal in shape, resulting in an unusual interior plan. Instead of standard side aisles, there is a triangular space to the south of the main nave and on the north side (as seen here) a series of reducing spaces : first a narrow side aisle, then a small side chapel and a further very small space beyond that.

St Columba's Church, Scarborough - chancel
To those familiar with church architecture, this has all the signs of the Catholic revival in the Church of England: the aumbry with hanging lamp, large high altar with a triptych reredos (its wings closed for the penitential season of Lent, revealing a plain cross) and riddel posts. However as I found out when attending worship, they are very much a liberal church, as the female priest was looking forward to the forthcoming visit of their female bishop.

Victoria Park Mount
This road has a distant view of Scarborough Castle. On the right streets of late 19th century terrace housing run off at right angles. 1These are known as 'The Avenues'. Less dense early 20th century semi-detached housing on the left.

St Columba's Church, Scarborough - foundation stone
A memorial to Revd R F L Blunt, Vicar of Scarborough 1864-1905, i.e. he died shortly before the first "tin tabernacle" was built on this site prior to the present church. It also acts as the foundation stone of the church, being laid on 23 January 1923 by Archbishop Cosmo Gordon (Lang) of York; the church was completed in 1926.
