A memorial to Revd R F L Blunt, Vicar of Scarborough 1864-1905, i.e. he died shortly before the first "tin tabernacle" was built on this site prior to the present church. It also acts as the foundation stone of the church, being laid on 23 January 1923 by Archbishop Cosmo Gordon (Lang) of York; the church was completed in 1926.
