Bickford's and Palmer's Shafts, South Crofty
Tucked away on the Heartlands site is a circular structure that I am stood on, possibly a former chimney, a horizontal winder foundations (the square area just right of centre) and two boiler houses with settings. The winding engine was for Palmer's shaft and the building was destroyed by fire in 1974. The square chimney on the left is on a boiler house that served Bickford's shaft. In the distance can be seen the chimney and engine house of Michell's whim at East Pool.

Old Guidestone by Fore Street (East face)
The Guide Stone is located on the South of the road. Parish of Carn Brea (Kerrier District). Carved stone post, erected in the 19th Century. Some believe this is a boundary marker between Basset / TB Vyvyan land, but there are clearly arrows and this face does not just have B. The word POOL is not clear and there looks to be CAMBORNE at the bottom. This possibly refers to the western extent of Basset land. The Old Pool Post Office
For many years, this building housed Pool Post Office, until it was closed in 1995. A plaque next to the still existent Georgian post box reads "The Maddern family has kept the Post Office for over 100 years ending in 1995".
The road on which the post office stands was once the main A30 before a dual carriageway bypass was built.

Heartlands - Diaspora Gardens and new houses
Heartlands is a regeneration project on the old South Crofty mine site and includes a preserved Cornish engine at Robinson's Shaft. The gardens are in sections that relate to parts of the World where Cornish mining technology and miners were exported. It was once said that at the bottom of a hole in the ground anywhere in the world you would find a Cornishman (likewise it was said you would find a Scot at the bottom of a marine engine room ladder - hence Scotty on Star Trek).

Robinson's Shaft, South Crofty Mine.
This is now closed. The National Trust owns the 1854 Cornish beam engine in the tall building with the chimney. The beam can be seen projecting in to the modern head gear. This is one of the few Cornish engines in situ in Cornwall. The others are at East Pool (x2), Levant (rotative), Goonvean (derelict) and Parkandillick. There is one on display at Poldark and the Carpalla engine is in store at Wroughton.
