The plaque in George Lane United Reformed Church reads: A TRIBUTE TO THE MEMORY OF HERBERT BARLOW. WHOSE LIFE WAS DEVOTED TO THE SERVICE OF THIS CHURCH AND SUNDAY SCHOOL. Woodley Drinking Fountain
The drinking fountain at the bottom of George Lane dates from 1881. It was recommissioned after a restoration project under the initiative of Ian Simpson and the Woodley Community Council on 23rd April 1988. A small plaque has also been placed on the fountain as a tribute Ian Simpson in appreciation of his hard work for this village, 8th June 1961 - 4th June 2000.
