The plaque in George Lane United Reformed Church reads: A TRIBUTE TO THE MEMORY OF HERBERT BARLOW. WHOSE LIFE WAS DEVOTED TO THE SERVICE OF THIS CHURCH AND SUNDAY SCHOOL. FOR 33 YEARS HE GAVE UNTIRING SERVICE AS DEACON AND CHURCH SECRETARY PASSED AWAY 16TH AUG. 1939. "NOT SLOTHFUL IN THE BUSINESS OF SERVING THE LORD."
