Broad Hill, Penistone
Looking across the fields above Well House Lane towards the viaduct carrying the main railway over the River Don. The hedge on the left is at the top of the railway cutting where the railtrack then enters the long tunnel under the main A629 Sheffield to Huddersfield road and the adjacent hillside.

Old milestone
On the A628 approaching Penistone this 'listed' milestone from the 32 mile long Doncaster to Saltersbrook turnpike is next to the bus-stop. A new town sign has recently been erected close by. Repainted in 2016, it would now benefit from a good wash down to remove dirt thrown up by passing lorries and other heavy traffic.

Old Milestone by the A628, Barnsley Road, Penistone
Carved stone post by the A628, in parish of Penistone (Barnsley District), Barnsley Road, Penistone, between railway bridge and Well House Lane, by bus stop, in little garden just West of Windermere Road, on South side of road. Erected by the Doncaster & Salter's Brook turnpike trust in the 18th century.
Inscription reads:-
