Fields East of Upminster
This shot shows just how inclement the weather has been this winter. Normally by this time of year these fields would have been ploughed and sown with winter cereal. It looks like the farmer has ploughed a few furrows but the land seems to be saturated as the ruts out of shot were puddles. This spectacular double rainbow appeared during a sudden shower. Image can be seen in the distance.

Cranham Work Party
Image Nature Reserve https://www.wildessex.net/sites/Cranham%20Marsh.htm is owned by Havering Council. However it is managed by volunteers from the Essex Wildlife Trust https://www.essexwt.org.uk/nature-reserves/cranham-marsh. They meet on the last Sunday every month and third Wednesday of winter months. If you would like to help out preserving these rare habitats see https://www.essexwt.org.uk/get-involved/volunteer. Here the volunteers are creating a Image from brushwood created when young trees were felled, coppiced or pollarded. This became necessary to save the rare rough grassland habitat becoming secondary woodland for another view see Image

Dead Hedge
This boundary is a "dead hedge"created from the brushwood resulting from felling, pollarding & coppicing trees that threatened to turn the grassland into secondary woodland. This technique saves unnecessary burning and creates habitat for small mammals and invertebrates. The work was carried out by the Essex Wildlife Trust's Image during their regular Image Image Nature Reserve is owned by Havering Council but is maintained by the Trust http://www.essexwt.org.uk/
