In the foreground, the container for the ground maintenance equipment with a roller rusting in the brambles. There used to be a hut here. The sports ground's two floodlight towers are visible. The housing in the distance is on New Ash Close.

Stanley Road Playing Fields
Overgrown by grasses, wild flowers and young trees, this is roughly where the north end of the 400m running track curved away and the finishing line would have been each summer. The houses in the distance are on Leslie Road.

The water fountain at Stanley Road playing fields. Sadly, as neglected as the fields themselves.

Behind the goal at the southwest end of the ground. The tall fence is being pushed down by the trees behind - it was meant to stop ball going onto the Northern Line in the cutting behind, but wasn't very successful. There is an air of dereliction about the site and even the security people seem to have given up on it.

The railings at Stanley Road playing fields. Works of art and labels, expressing feelings for and memories of the site, have been attached as part of an ongoing campaign to secure the future of the site as a sports venue for local children.

Stanley Road
Stanley Road playing fields in Finchley have fallen into disuse. Once there was a football pitch in the winter and running track / cricket nets in the summer. The hard grit surface was murder on the knees! There is currently debate locally about the future of the fields - housing or a new sports facility. In the meantime a lost ball from the adjacent primary school shares the long grass with the dandelions.

Stanley Road Playing Fields
Abandoned pending a decision on their future use - More housing or a return to being a sports facility. The area where the blackberries are flowering was where the cricket nets used to be in the summer months. A long jump track ran away from the photographer, alongside the overgrown fence in the centre and there was a shot-put pit close to the rear fence to the right of centre. The fine gravel that made up the sports field is visible in the foreground where tracks have been worn by people walking their dogs.

Looking along the football pitch towards the Northern Line, which passes behind the trees in a cutting. A line of cones forms a defensive wall for an imaginary goalkeeper.
