Old Milestone by the A629, Wakefield Road, Huddersfield
Carved stone post by the A629, in parish of HUDDERSFIELD (KIRKLEES District), Wakefield Road, by No. 380, near Beech Avenue, in pavement, next to fence, on South side of road. Huddersfield 'To - From' stone, erected by the Wakefield & Austerlands turnpike trust in the 19th century.
Inscription reads:- : TO / HUDDERSFIELD / 1½ / MILES : : FROM / HUDDERSFIELD / 1½ / MILES :

Old milestone
Another of the stones erected in the late 19C on roads radiating out from Huddersfield to regulate the carriage charges. There were over 40 with 25 still in place. This 1½ mile stone is on the A629 outside No.380 Wakefield Road. The first stone was always at 1 Mile then each ½ mile after that.
