1 Nov 2025	Anti-Social Behaviour/Drug related issues – Huddersfield There has been an increase in reports of drug related ASB in public spaces in Huddersfield. The reports suggest that there are frequent gatherings of drug users at locations causing disruptive behaviour and that individuals are buying and using drugs in public spaces. This is causing community concern and distress to local residents. Along with the reports of drug taking there is also an increase in ASB associated with such matter and littering and noise nuisance are a concern. The priority is, in conjunction with partners, to deal with drug related offences, and associated ASB in and around the highlighted locations.   Traffic and Road Safety – Huddersfield  Our priority will be to tackle the use of unsafe off-road bikes and anti-social driving in the Huddersfield area. We will work in conjunction with partners whilst also utilising our off-road bike officers to remove bikes from the roads and prosecute those responsible. We will actively engage with our community and identify traffic hot spots and gather information about riders/ drivers. We will continue to arrange road-safety events in colleges and schools to provide education to young people around the dangers of off-road bikes and anti-social driver, and the impact these issues cause the local community.  We will conduct days of action, tackling the fatal 5 and addressing poor driving standards.    Reducing Theft from Motor Vehicles and Theft of Tools from Trades' Vans – Huddersfield  Vehicle-related crime continues to impact communities across Huddersfield, with offenders targeting both secure and insecure vehicles. Key concerns include the theft of catalytic converters, high-value trade vans, and tools or items left on display. These offences not only disrupt livelihoods—particularly for tradespeople—but also contribute to wider community unease and a sense of vulnerability. Reducing vehicle crime is a priority to improve public confidence, protect property, and support the resilience of local communities. Response (1 Nov 2025) Anti-Social Behaviour/Drug related issues - Since the last update, significant progress has been made in tackling drug-related issues within the area. Multiple drug warrants have been executed, and we will continue to develop intelligence to identify and act on further opportunities as information becomes available. We are maintaining regular engagement with the community to understand areas of concern. Recent feedback, particularly through joint work with partners, indicates that the community is satisfied with the proactive measures being taken. Officers have conducted stop-and-searches on vehicles and individuals where grounds exist, demonstrating visible and proactive enforcement to reassure the public. Known hotspot areas for drug use and dealing are being patrolled regularly, and this will remain a key focus moving forward.   Traffic and Road Safety - Following community engagement and contact from local councillors, we have listened to concerns and attended areas where poor parking has been reported. We have prosecuted the most serious offenders and will continue to take enforcement action where necessary. Both proactive and reactive approaches have been taken to address road traffic issues, responding to intelligence and prosecuting drivers for a range of offences. As a result of community feedback, we have tasked the ORB team with targeting hotspot areas, and have promoted their positive work through social media. In the lead-up to Christmas, we have several multi-agency days of action planned.   Reducing Theft from Motor Vehicles and Theft of Tools from Trades' Vans - To address the priority of vehicle-related crime in Huddersfield, West Yorkshire Police will increase targeted patrols in hotspot areas, use intelligence to disrupt offenders, and work closely with communities and tradespeople to promote crime prevention measures such as tool marking and van security upgrades. We have been particularly successful in this area and are currently in the process of bringing many offenders to justice. We will continue to develop intelligence around this issue and tackle the problem at source. Since the last priorities update, a number of joint visits with Kirklees Council and Housing Associations have been carried out at addresses occupied by vulnerable people who are being exploited by drug dealers and users alike. As a result of these joint visits, numerous arrests have been made, and many vulnerable people have been safeguarded. Known hotspot areas for drug use and dealing are being patrolled regularly, including pre-planned days of action with partner agencies. This will remain a key focus moving forward and further days of action are already planned.   Traffic and road safety - Police will work with partners to address poor and anti-social parking around educational venues. We are working closely with Petrol Stations owners and staff to assist in identifying those using the highway for off road bike activities. These enforcement actions have disrupted criminal activity, removed key offenders from the community, and sent a clear message that vehicle crime will not be tolerated. As a direct result of these investigations and proactive operations, stolen property has been recovered and returned to its rightful owners. The recovery of stolen goods has not only reduced the impact on victims but has also provided valuable evidential opportunities, contributing to successful detections and criminal proceedings. Alongside enforcement activity, neighbourhood officers have engaged with residents, businesses, and community groups to provide crime prevention advice, increase awareness of vehicle security measures, and encourage the reporting of suspicious activity. This visible policing presence and community engagement have helped to build public confidence and strengthen local intelligence gathering. These combined efforts have resulted in an increase in detection rates for vehicle crime offences and a measurable improvement in public satisfaction.
