LIEUTENANT J. E. POLMONT. RNVR. H.M.S. “SPARTIATE” 3RD OCTOBER 1942 AGE 34 AT THE GOING DOWN OF THE SUN AND IN THE MORNING WE WILL REMEMBER THEM HMS Spartiate appears to have been a shore-based establishment, responsible for security and safety on the River Clyde. While the headquarters was based in Glasgow, the patrols were based along the river, and this may account for reports which place HMS Spartiate at locations other than Glasgow, including Helensburgh https://www.secretscotland.org.uk/index.php/Secrets/HMSSpartiate.

Memorial to the Ure family of Cairndhu
The inscription on the near side commemorates "John Ure, LL.D., born at Glasgow, 19th July 1824, died at Helensburgh, 1st August 1901", and his wife Isabella Gibb (b. at Glasgow, 10th May 1828; d. at Helensburgh 15th Feb 1915). Other members of the family are named in inscriptions on the remaining sides.
