LIEUTENANT J. E. POLMONT. RNVR. H.M.S. “SPARTIATE” 3RD OCTOBER 1942 AGE 34 AT THE GOING DOWN OF THE SUN AND IN THE MORNING WE WILL REMEMBER THEM HMS Spartiate appears to have been a shore-based establishment, responsible for security and safety on the River Clyde. While the headquarters was based in Glasgow, the patrols were based along the river, and this may account for reports which place HMS Spartiate at locations other than Glasgow, including Helensburgh https://www.secretscotland.org.uk/index.php/Secrets/HMSSpartiate.
