Bench mark on church
Rather than showing it in close-up, this photograph is intended to show the bench mark in its situation at the north-western corner of the Image The text on it reads "O S / B M / G1635". According to the Ordnance Survey's own records, this is a first-order flush bracket bench mark, whose height has been determined as 4.7862 metres above Newlyn datum; it is 0.6 metres above ground level. For an explanation of some of the terms used here, see the "Bench Mark" description below, which was written by Ross.

United Reformed Church beside Glasgow Road
For a view from a different angle, see Image The church (formerly Evangelical Union) is located at the corner of Glasgow Road (the main road that is visible on the left) and Leven Street (which is behind the church). Its listed building report provides further details: http://portal.historic-scotland.gov.uk/designation/LB50543 (at Historic Environment Scotland). The building is category C listed. The text "CENTENARY 1878 1978" is inscribed on the side that faces Glasgow Road. Thomas Dykes of Glasgow was the architect, and the building cost £3000, of which £1000 was contributed by the confectioner John Buchanan, who lived at Dumbuck House [Donald MacLeod, "Dumbarton Ancient and Modern" (1893), Chapter XXXIV]. By 2013, the church had closed.

Exit to Morrisons
The most difficult place to get out of if on foot. Trying to get to Dumbarton Castle I had to do a complete circuit to find this exit.

Metal sculpture
This artwork is located beside a roundabout, from which a road leads to a supermarket (Image). The sculpture is set among the trees that are visible behind the sign in Image; it recalls the shipbuilding heritage of the area. For example, the 1862 OS map shows Daniel Rankin's "Victoria Shipbuilding Yard", located just to the south of the area that is now occupied by the supermarket. Not far to the west, on ground that would later be occupied by a distillery, was Archibald McMillan's shipyard (see Image and Image). There were other yards nearby, including those at Woodyard and Sandpoint (see Image, Image, and other links from those items). For another contributor's pictures of the artwork, see Image and Image

Sculpture Outside the Scottish Maritime Museum in Dumbarton
This metalwork sculpture sits at the Glasgow Road roundabout between Morrisons supermarket and the Scottish Maritime Museum (The Denny Tank). The sculpture reflects the history of shipbuilding in the area. There seems to be some debate as to whether the figure is a welder or a burner (https://democratonline.net/2019/04/02/welder-or-burner/ Dumbarton Democrat).
