Old bridge marker, Wearhead
The Durham Historic Environment Record (HER) https://www.heritagegateway.org.uk/Gateway/Results_Single.aspx?uid=D8876&resourceID=109 says that this is "a stone milestone or property marker". But a longstanding local resident told me that the "C", which is the Latin letter for 100, indicated that the river (Wear) was 100 yards (presumably Roman yards) away. The location of this stone is shown in Image and Image

Closed agricultural vehicle dealers, Wearhead
Standing beside the A689 in upper Weardale, this now derelict premises was a thriving petrol station in the late 1960s and 1970s. It also sold new and used cars, and was owned by a Mr John Hodgen. The indications are that it has also served as an agricultural vehicle dealers at some stage (information supplied by Stephen Reed)

Wearhead Station and engine shed
View NW, towards buffer-stops; ex-North Eastern terminus of branch from Stanhope and Bishop Auckland. This was the Last Day of passenger services (27/6/53), but goods continued until 2/1/61 - to St John's Chapel until 1/11/65. The train in the station, waiting to make its last journey down Weardale is an ex-NE J21 0-6-0, which probably lived in the little Shed.
