Leaving Castleton
Stone built workers cottages on Wandels Lane out of the village. Probably agricultural but just maybe for village artisans.

Castleton High Street
- The lower part. The white square on the house, left side, used to be a painted sign for a pub, now a private house.

Ghost sign, Castleton
I am fascinated by the faint traces of advertising signage can occasionally be seen on old established buildings. This one was painted and is on a sandstone cottage on Church Street, Castleton as it climbs up to the village centre. Too faint now to be readable though. I don’t suppose the parish council would agree if similar was proposed nowadays. Apparently, the sign referred to the Robin Hood and Little John Inn. Castleton, High Street
Stone built cottages, possibly Victorian but certainly re-roofed at some point. One of these is for sale if you are interested.

Castleton main street
Looking down the lower end of the main street in Castleton. The tightly packed terraces here suggest more of an urban townscape, despite this being a modest sized village.

Boat at Castleton
Boat at Castleton? In a pasture? Yes, that was my thought. It looks too big even for the River Esk at this point, and that is half a mile away. And although this is probably a flood plain, that is unduly pessimistic. Someone's project perhaps.
