Derelict land at Blakenhall, Wolverhampton
Looking across part of the Blakenhall Gardens regeneration area using telephoto assistance. The shops are in a small precinct carrying a Blakenhall Gardens address, off Dudley Road.
The last of six tower blocks at Phoenix Rise nearby is being gradually demolished, and the whole area is to be rebuilt with two and three storey family housing. According to the plans, appropriately sized trees will be planted in the new roadways, and existing mature trees will be retained wherever possible.

Blakenhall Gardens regeneration project, Wolverhampton
This telephoto assisted image from the junction of Chapel Street and Dudley road shows the view across the site to some of the recently built housing. The spire of St Luke's Church can be seen above the semi-detached house on Plot No 61. The foreground is where there was a shopping precinct formerly, including the very useful Johal Supermarket where fresh "ethnic" vegetables and spices could be bought at very reasonable prices. A new retail area is to be built here soon.

Building site at Blakenhall, Wolverhampton
This is where the new Blakenhall Gardens housing development is now making good progress after some delays caused by national economic problems.
Seen from Dudley Road, the foreground is where the old shopping precinct was. That included some useful Asian supermarkets where all manner of spices and fresh "ethnic" vegetables could be bought for reasonable prices. Plans include new shopping units here, including what appears to be one larger area, which will replace the demolished ones. In the distance is the spire of St Luke's Church above the new semi-detached house on plot Nos 61/62.
Update - April 2014: the whole project has been completed - looks very smart, including two excellent Asian supermarkets, and some smaller shops.
