Low Level Station Redevelopment - Christmas 2008
Work has ground to a halt on the station development.
The tower crane in the distance is on the site of the Victoria Hall residence for students at Wolverhampton University. This will be 25 storey tower block. The height of the building appears out of character with the surrounding listed buildings (Low Level Station), railway viaduct and Springfield Brewery.

Low Level Station Development
The remaining housing has been sold to a Housing Association but the station buildings are still empty. The most recent change to the view is the addition of the Victoria Hall student accommodation block.

Contrast In Bricks
The Bluebrick development on the site of the old Wolverhampton Low Level station is named in recognition of the bricks used for the construction of the original station buildings. This view shows the contrast between the original bricks and those being used for the new development.

The remaining units in the development on the left were sold to a Housing Association for residents displaced from Phoenix Rise. The bars and entertainment proposed for the station building on the right remains on hold.

Wolverhampton Low Level Station (disused)
This is a photograph of Low Level Station, as it was late October 2005. It is due for imminent redevelopment, so I took this photo from an angle not normally shown on when discussing this historic building. It is a shame it is to be redeveloped, as it is one of the few remaining early 19th Century Bluebrick structures.

The 4.55 p.m. to Birkenhead Woodside
This is the now long-gone Wolverhampton Low Level station of the Great Western Railway. In 1964 I was a regular user of this train and this was the last day that it ran. The locomotive, No 6964, 'Thornridge Hall', was unusual for this train, as normally a 'County' class 4-6-0 was provided. This useful line was a casualty of the Beeching cuts.
