The former Barclays Bank branch, 1 Malvern Road, St. John's, Worcester
Like many banks Barclays has been cutting its branch network and one of the victims was the St. John's branch in Malvern Road. It is currently available to lease as a shop.
In March 2008 this branch was robbed of £4,100 by a Worcester University student who seemed to be making a career from armed robberies of banks, building societies and other business premises. He was sent to prison for 13 years.

Barclays Bank, 1 Malvern Road, St. John's, Worcester
The area of St. John's dates back to medieval times, and was incorporated into the city of Worcester in 1837. Today it is regarded as one of the more desirable parts of the city to live in. There is indeed much very attractive housing in the area, but some of the compact business area is looking a bit run down. However this bank looks very smart, and sets an example to some of the other businesses here. It is helped by the fact that the building is a late Georgian stuccoed villa, with a Doric porch.

77-83 St John's, Worcester
Dereliction corner. The roofless building with a small top-floor arboretum was a nightclub, Zig Zag, and had apparently lain empty for more than twenty years. Next door was a shop, Cordles, while the brick front to its right, looking relatively pristine, was a pub, the Swan, later the Smoke Stack.
