Housing on the site of Powick Hospital
Housing development on the site of the former Powick Hospital which closed in 1989. The original hospital building can be seen to the left of centre, unmistakable with the tall centre block. Here it is viewed from the Old Hills to the south-east.

Housing Estate on Site of Powick Mental Hospital
The Worcestershire County Asylum opened here in 1852. Edward Elgar was appointed bandmaster in 1878. It was famous for using LSD on patients in the 1960s. I had Electro Convulsive Therapy (ECT) here for severe clinical depression in 1974. It closed in 1996.

Former asylum near Bastonford
Built as the City and County Lunatic Asylum in 1848-52 by Hamilton & Medland. This was the former administration block. Grade II listed. Not much remains and what does now finds itself "hemmed in by neo-Georgian [housing] units that manage to be simpering and regimented at the same time." See James Pratt's photos in this square for what was here.
