Acton Park Lodge
Acton Park was purchased from the Goldsmiths' Company and the Ecclesiastical Commissioners in 1888 and opened to the public later in the same year. A windmill once stood in the corner of what is now the bowling green.
This is Acton Park Lodge on The Vale which now houses the Ranger Base. On the far side is the Acton Waterwise Garden which is sponsored by Thames Water - see http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/4086404

Acton Park Lodge and the Acton Waterwise Garden
Acton Park was purchased from the Goldsmiths' Company and the Ecclesiastical Commissioners in 1888 and opened to the public later in the same year. A windmill once stood in the corner of what is now the bowling green.
This is Acton Park Lodge on The Vale which now houses the Ranger Base. In front of it here is the Acton Waterwise Garden which is sponsored by Thames Water and "is intended to demonstrate that it is possible to have a garden which is attractive all year round, needs nothing but rainwater in order to thrive and requires little maintenance."

The Lodge, Acton Park
Now the base for the park rangers, rather than a dwelling house. The stone in the chimney is inscribed A.D.C. 1903 (for Acton District Council). Nicely spruced up since this view http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1193787 of 2009.

Acton Waterwise Garden
The garden of Acton Park Lodge http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/2767404 has been developed to require no watering other than natural rainfall. It includes drought resistant species as well as mulch coverings to minimise evaporation.
