Acton Park was purchased from the Goldsmiths' Company and the Ecclesiastical Commissioners in 1888 and opened to the public later in the same year. A windmill once stood in the corner of what is now the bowling green. This is Acton Park Lodge on The Vale which now houses the Ranger Base. In front of it here is the Acton Waterwise Garden which is sponsored by Thames Water and "is intended to demonstrate that it is possible to have a garden which is attractive all year round, needs nothing but rainwater in order to thrive and requires little maintenance."
