Wood Lane Underground
The 'new' station was opened for the Westfield Shopping Centre. The station is on the world's first urban underground train line - the Hammersmith and City Line 1863. The Wood lane station was not opened with the original line but was opened much later in 1908 to serve the new exhibition centre. It then closed in 1914 and reopened again in 1920. The last time it closed was in 1959.

Wood Lane Underground Station
New station for Westfield shopping centre. It is on the Hammersmith and City line, which crosses Wood Lane on the bridge in the photo. The Central Line runs parallel to Wood Lane here, just below ground level, but there is no access from this station to the Central Line - that is at White City station a short way north. Central Line goes underground at Wood Lane
From Ealing Broadway and Ruislip to White City station and this point the London Underground Central Line is on the surface. At this point it goes under Wood Lane station on the Circle and Hammersmith & City line. It goes down to Shepherd's Bush station where it has become a deep line. The structure on the left is the street level entry to Wood Lane station - pedestrians seen beyond it are on the pavement of Wood Lane. Photo Image shows this area from a terrace of Westfield shopping centre.
