The 'new' station was opened for the Westfield Shopping Centre. The station is on the world's first urban underground train line - the Hammersmith and City Line 1863. The Wood lane station was not opened with the original line but was opened much later in 1908 to serve the new exhibition centre. It then closed in 1914 and reopened again in 1920. The last time it closed was in 1959.
