Old wall at Meanwhile Gardens
Old buildings in this area were razed to the ground during the slum clearance projects of the 60s, leaving derelict wasteland beside the canal, but clearly this was once some sort of industrial site; I have been unable to discover what but one possibility is that it was a brickworks - brickmaking was a major occupation in the area at one time. Here old materials have been utilized to good effect in creating flowerbeds and ornamental. Behind, the apices of new buildings across the canal peep over the wall - see them here Image]

Meanwhile Gardens await the spring
The Gardens were open but deserted when I wandered through on a Sunday afternoon in March although this abandoned drink suggested recent visitors. This area is the known as the Scented Courtyard.

A Dutch motor-barge at Kensal Town
Moored by the Grand Union Canal (Paddington arm). I identify it as a barge because it has lee-boards, and as Dutch because - well, it looks like a Dutch barge, albeit a small one. Lee-boards are the pivoted structures which - on a flat-bottomed barge - serve instead of a keel, and render the vessel steerable. The port lee-board can be seen in the picture - painted dark red with details picked out in yellow. There's a closer view here: https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/7011496 No name, either fore or aft, so I'd guess that it's used as a house-boat.
