The Lord Nelson, Brentford
I am not sure why The Lord Nelson should be flying the French Tricolour as by this date France was out of the 2014 World Cup. The pub is on the corner of Enfield Road and Grove Road, just north of the M4.

Windmill Road, Brentford in 1987
This picture was taken from outside the Globe pub (104 Windmill Road, corner of Boston Gardens) on the 3rd of January 1987. Across the way is Eastbourne Road, and in the distance is the Alfa Laval office by the M4. The man with the camera was about to take a picture of the pub, so I will one day persuade him to sign up to Geograph and submit it!

Great West Road, Brentford
Here, to the north of Brentford town centre, the M4 is carried on a long flyover above the A4. The flyover dates from 1964 when it was built as an extension to the Chiswick flyover to the east. Had planners had their way in the 1960s and '70s much more of London would have had this appearance accommodating an extensive network of urban motorways. The white car, incidentally, parked in a bus lay-by was on Transport for London business.

The road shown in Image continues to the north of the A4/M4, passing the crossroads with Boston Park Road (left) and Eastbourne Road (right). On the left is The Globe, a Fuller's pub.

The M4 at Brentford
It is now on a flyover over the A4. A lot of development has taken place changing this approach to London quite dramatically.
