Park Gate Joinery Company
Shopfront on Hampton Hill High Street.
There is a gate into Bushy Park just opposite, hence the name.
This building is very like places in the historic areas of some old towns in the States.
If I want a fancy front I'm having a fancy front, whatever anyone else on the block is doing....

The Duke of Clarence
Old pub on Hampton Hill High Street.
I looked for info about the Duke of Clarence title, and the most likely one in this instance seems to be King William 4th who was Duke before he was crowned. The period looks about right.
Local historians care to comment?

Hampton Hill pubs: (1) 'The Bloated Mallard'
Known until quite recently as
Image . The Duke - later King William IV - lived locally for many years, at
Image . Anyway, I'm glad to report that the new management still think of the place as a pub, rather than a restaurant http://www.bloatedmallard.co.uk/.
Interestingly, the proprietors call the building 'Victorian', but I suspect that it's older. The future king was created Duke of Clarence in 1789, and went by that title until he succeeded to the throne in 1830. So the original name of the pub must date from before 1830, and - from its appearance - I suspect the building does, too.
By the way - the original name of the pub is still visible, displayed at roof level, above the middle entrance.

Former pub in Hampton Hill High Street
This building, close to and opposite the end of Windmill Road, was until 1913 a pub called the Brewery Tap, and nicknamed 'The Old Mud Hut'. When pictured in 1975 it was a private house, but not long after became a sports shop. I don't know what it is in use for today - perhaps somebody could enlighten me?
If you have access to a copy of "The Birth and Growth of Hampton Hill" by Margery Orton and published in 1975, have a look at the picture of the pub taken about 1910.
