Former tollhouse near Leaton
A charming little building, also known as the Round House or Umbrella House. Built in 1835, possibly to the designs of Thomas Telford who at the time was building a bypass of Overley Hill. See also here: Image Its life collecting tolls came to an end in the mid-1860s. Grade II listed.

Burcotgate toll house
Toll house, old Watling Street. Probably designed by Telford. Stone plaque above central sash: "WT/1835". Note the fancy iron straps on front door & deeply overhanging eaves to protect tollkeeper & passengers.

Burcotgate former toll house
Dated 1835, and supposedly designed by the county surveyor of Shropshire who died a year earlier, Thomas Telford, after whom the nearby town has taken its name.
