Telford Steam Railway - the Lawley Common extension seen from Heath Hill Tunnel
The opening of the extension to a new terminal station at Lawley Common was originally scheduled for 2010. But priorities have had to be changed, so the opening will not now be until later. The Telford Steam Railway uses part of the route of the closed line from Wellington to Craven Arms. Image Image

Telford Steam Railway - the line to Lawley Common
The line is under construction and will terminate at a new station at Lawley Common. There are excellent views of Shropshire from the common. Where the track is being built, was covered by thousands of tons of spoil from open cast coal workings. All that had to be removed by train before track could be laid. Image Image

Telford Steam Railway - Heath Hill Tunnel
In 2010, this tunnel was as far as passenger carrying trains could go. Ahead the railway is being constructed to a terminus, at a new station at Lawley Common. The tunnel takes the railway under Dawley Road. This photograph was taken from the back of a moving train in poor light, and unfortunately isn't as sharp as one would like. But in the absence of any alternative, it may be of interest. Image Image

Railway tunnel under the Dawley to Wellington Road
Described some years ago as 'disused', but clearly the local Steam Railway Trust a little way to the south has been extending their line and have now brought the tunnel back into use. It dates from around 1856, and was built for the Ketley branch of the Wellington and Severn Junction Railway (later the GWR) and was Grade II listed https://britishlistedbuildings.co.uk/101257692-disused-railway-tunnel-under-dawley-to-wellington-road-lawley-and-overdale#.YLVcYahKjIU & https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1257692 in 1997.
