Late 18th century, grade II listed house at 10 High Street, home to three generations of the Baddeley family, medical practitioners. Dr.George Baddeley was a pioneer of public health, promoting better sanitation and improved water supply with the sinking of 'Baddeley's Hydraulic Well' in 1883.

Baddeley Court was the result of the conversion of a former Budgens supermarket into smaller retail units. It was completed in 2019. Occupiers of the units include Specsavers, Peacocks and Cardfactory.

I have a confession to make. I've lived in Shropshire for the best part of a decade and had never visited Newport before today. I've wanted to, many times. But I have never had reason to and in my mind that kind of sums Newport up. It seems to me that you have to fight through a vortex of some kind to get there. Admittedly I live in deepest South Shrops but no one in ten years has said "I was in Newport - you must go!" It's not near anywhere and it's certainly a long way from Ludlow. I've even been to that Gingerbready place - Market Drayton, I believe it's called. And Whitchurch. And Telford. Once. (No many times in reality). But until today I was unknown to Newport and it to me. That is rectified and I loved it - but my god it took ages to drive there. I drove and hoped, drove a long way further and had to pull over and check my road atlas and I passed through places that made me believe I had strayed into a parallel universe where even the place names seemed obviously made up (Crudgington, Cherryton and Edgton if I recall correctly) and I appreciated again what a big - really big - county Shropshire is. I was fascinated and rewarded by my visit. I'll be back.

Grade II* listed complex of buildings developed around an open hall with roof timbers dated to 1486. The merchant guild was formed in the 13th century, later becoming the Guild of St.Mary and dissolved at the Reformation. The buildings were converted for domestic use after 1583 and survived the disastrous Fire of Newport in 1665, the shop fronts were added in the 19th century. It is now owned by Boughey Trust and leased to Newport Town Council for a peppercorn rent.

The lefthand part was originally built in the 14th or early 15th century, and a similar righthand wing added in the 16th; the left wing is a rare survival of an openhall construction, with a cusped arch-braced and wind-braced roof. The conversion of the ground floor from domestic use, and addition of the shop fronts, is probably a 19th century alteration.

Woolworths in Newport has found a new lease of life, as a discount store.
