Old Milestone by the former A458, Wattlesborough, Westbury Parish
Carved stone post by the A458, in parish of WESTBURY (SHREWSBURY AND ATCHAM District), Halfway House; by "Edge Croft", by the road, on South side of road. Erected by the Shrewsbury to Welshpool turnpike trust in the 19th century. Inscription once read:- (SALOP) (X) Shropshire HER listed. 2 pubs in 1
The village is called Halfway House - and so is one of the pubs. As neither was open when the photo was taken, it's unclear whether this is 2 semi-detached pubs or one amalgamated hostelry. The Halfway House is painted white outside, whilst the Seven Stars Inn is cream coloured: is this subtle marketing?

The Halfway House
The pub closed in 2006 following the death of the licensee. The Seven Stars is immediately next door. SeeImage The place is over half way from Shrewsbury to Welshpool by the A458. Middletown Hill, over the Welsh border can be seen in the distance.
