Lime kilns Nant Mawr Visitor Centre
This includes the Tanat Valley Light Railway. These impressive lime kilns are claimed to be the tallest in the country. They are masonry built but have been extended upwards and the far ones have had huge concrete buttresses added. On the right is the railway's class 309 EMU set that arrived in 2018 and hides the lower part of the kilns. You have to squeeze past the train to get this view and I suspect that not many people bother, which is a shames as the kilns are worthy in their own right.

Tanat Valley Light Railway - Nantmawr Visitor Centre
The Narrow Gauge Railway Society visited this site to see the collection of industrial monorails and the now unique monorail steam locomotive. This shows the 309 EMU set that arrived in 2018 in front of the Nantmawr lime kilns from c1870. These are claimed to be the tallest lime kilns in the country.

Tanat Valley Light Railway - Monoloco
This is believed to be the only genuine steam monorail locomotive to survive, albeit modern and out of use for quite a few years. It was built by Century Millwrights of Hampton-on-Thames in 1998 as Works 11003. It drives by two wheels on the top of the rail and is kept upright by guide wheels bearing on the sides of the lower section of the rail (two seen bottom centre). It is hoped to get this back in steam but it is likely to require a full boiler re-tube first.

Tanat Valley Light Railway - diesel shunter
The diesel is 'Crabtree' a Ruston and Hornsby 0-4-0DM built in 1953 as works No. 338416. This one is a runner. Behind is a class 309 electric multiple unit that arrived in 2018 and houses a café among other things. Towering over them are the Nant Mawr lime kilns, claimed to be the tallest in the country.

Industrial monorail collection
Narrow Gauge Railway Society visit to the Tanat Valley Light Railway Nantmawr Visitor Centre. These are amazing. In the foreground one was burbling away waiting for its next driver while in the left background an intrepid driver is heading round the somewhat rough and ready track. Driving couldn't be easier - one lever moves up and down for forward or reverse and a quick tug on another lever brings it to a rapid stop. The one in the foreground has belt and chain transmission but the big yellow beast has hydraulic transmission. This is quite the quirkiest thing I have seen for a while.
