London: postbox № SW7 39, Imperial College Road
A double-aperture, Elizabeth II-reign postbox on the corner of Exhibition Road. This is the northeast corner of the Science Museum, which contained a post office from 25 September 1995 (replacing the Kensington branch office) until closure on 3 August 2004. This perhaps explains not only the exact location of the box but also the allocation of parking spaces marked 'PO'.

Science Museum, oscillating steam engine
Single cylinder oscillating engine by Harvey & Co, Hayle 1870. Used at Campden Hill Waterworks and later moved to Hammersmith Waterworks. It was used as a workshop drive and is now preserved at the Science Museum. One of very few surviving stationary steam applications of this design. Catch up with in "The Stationary Steam Engine" gallery.

Science Museum, Willans steam engine
This is a nicely preserved example of a Willans steam engine. This was an early design of high speed enclosed steam engine suited for direct coupling to a dynamo or alternator. The cylinders were single acting with central valves working inside the tubular piston rods. Lubrication was by splash. This one was used at High Flaggs Oil Mill owned by Chambers & Fargus Ltd of Hull and is coupled to a Siemens 10 kW dynamo running at 450 rpm. Because of the interesting internal layout of the Willans engine, some were sectioned to show their inner secrets. It is always nice to see an intact example. The Science Museum does have a sectioned one also.
