Made by the sculptor Stephen Kettle using pieces of Welsh slate. The sculpture stands beside a display of a deconstructed Spitfire aeroplane revealing its design and construction. Mitchell was the designer of the Spitfire and the Supermarine racing aircraft that won the Schneider Trophy.
