Residential conversion of Shoebury Garrison building
According to Southend Borough Council's conservation area appraisal, this is one of three similar buildings, two with this long ridge vent. They are later built than most, and the researchers did not know really what they were for.

Not an old building, former Shoebury Garrison site
The stone is dated 2004, so a good copy of the style of mid 19th century buildings surviving elsewhere on the site, which has been redeveloped for housing.

Parade Walk, Shoeburyness
In the redeveloped Shoebury Garrison site, modern flats on the left, on the right modern housing matching, more or less, the style and colour of the original buildings. One of the original buildings is glimpsed at the far end, single officers' quarters.

Former Garrison Hospital, Shoeburyness Barracks
When built in 1856 the original hospital was the most advanced of its kind with separate isolation, fever, casualty and general wards and an internal kitchen. It is now a private dwelling.
