Cressbrook Mill
Seen from the path leading to the Monsal Trail. There are three former cotton mills that are of different ages but contiguous. The nearest section with two roof ventilators is Cressbrook Mill of 1823. The furthest section with the cupola and pediment is Wye Mill of 1814. Between the two and perpendicular to them is Arkwright's Mill of 1783 that was rebuilt in 1787 following a fire.

Cressbrook Mill
This former cotton mill is now converted to houses and usually referred to as Cressbrook Mill. It is in fact three conjoined mills of different ages. On the left with the cupola is Wye Mill of 1814. On the right with two roof ventilators is Cressbrook Mill of 1823. Between them is Arkwright's Mill of 1783 and rebuilt in 1787 following a fire in 1785. In the angle between Wye Mill and Arkwright's Mill are two derelict water turbines. I was completely unaware of them until I first followed this path and gained some elevation and then I recognised them immediately.

Cressbrook Mill
Although billed as Cressbrook Mill this is actually three conjoined former cotton mills that are now converted to housing. On the left with two roof ventilators is Cressbrook Mill that was built in 1823. On the right with pediment and cupola is Wye Mill built in 1814. Between and perpendicular to these two is Arkwright's Mill that was built in c1783 and rebuilt in 1787. The complex was water powered from the River Wye. The wheels were later replaced by turbines and steam power was added, first by reciprocating engines and later by a steam turbine with rope drive.

Cressbrook Mill
The original mill buildings on the site at Cressbrook Mill were built for Richard Arkwright; they were burned down and the present ones were created from 1815. Production of cotton ceased in 1965 and the buildings were all but abandoned until conversion to apartments in recent times saved them. The view here is from above, to the west from the path of The Monsal Trail.
