Queen Street now Douglas Street
Originally this was Queen Street that ran through the middle of the James North factory site from Market Street to Lumn Road. After the firm closed down, a school and estate of new houses were built on the site. Greenfield School blocked off a length of Queen Street and the rest of it from its junction with Douglas Street to Lumn Road was renamed Douglas Street. To prevent it being used as a rat-run bollards block it off from Lumn Road.

The end of Douglas Street/Queen Street
Queen Street originally ran from the junction of Dowson Road and Market Street to Lumn Road through the James North leather works. After the factory was demolished following closure in the 1990s, Greenfield School was built across the Market Street end of the road. An estate of new houses was built on the rest of the factory site. The Eastern end of Queen Street was renamed Douglas Street, the continuation of a street that previously ran at right angles to Queen Street. The access on to Lumn Road has been blocked off.

Sign on Lumn Road
This pre-Worboys sign lies on the T-junction with Queen Street. Until a few years ago traffic from Dowson Road could cross Market Street into Queen Street Image which led down past the James North factory. As Queen Street was one-way from Market St to Lumn Road, lorries leaving the factory had to turn right out of the factory and down to this T-junction. Now Queen Street Image only runs as far as Douglas Street. There is no vehicular access across into the school and the new houses built on the old factory site. At this end, Queen Street is reduced to being an access passage to the rear of houses on Lumn Road. Douglas Street
Originally Douglas Street ran between Nelson Street and Queen Street. Where the new houses now are was previously the site of the James North factory. The factory also extended beyond Queen Street. When the estate of new houses was built on the site, the middle section of Queen Street was erased. The bottom end of Douglas Street was cut off by these bollards to prevent the estate being used as "rat-run".

Redundant signpost
With a background of private apartments it is difficult to capture a good photograph of this old signpost erected by "Hyde Corporation" on Lumn Road. It was opposite the end of Queen Street which was a one-way street on to which lorries from James North factory exited. The factory closed in the late 1990s and this end of Queen Street was closed off making the sign redundant.
