Holy Spirit church - the last day
The Holy Spirit church - a daughter church of the Anglican parish of St James, Kidbrooke - was opened in 1978 in a shop unit on Telemann Square. Over 34 years, in partnership with the Church Army, it was the base for various forms of ministry to the residents of this deprived estate, especially young people. The church had to close as part of the redevelopment of the estate and the final service was held on Sunday 13 November 2011 in the presence of the Bishop of Southwark, Christopher Chessun. See Image for the exterior.

One block gone...
The demolition and rebuilding of the Ferrier Estate, which should have been complete by 2010, was being delayed due to the recession. A few blocks had already been demolished: the site of one (a low-rise block on Elford Close) was behind the green hoardings seen here, viewed from the vantage point of the railway footbridge. Three of the tower blocks that remained are seen in this view: from left to right, Stainer House (with Wixom House hidden behind it); Ronald House; Felton House.
