Waiting for some lunch
This heron had been walking around outside KFC at Thamesmead but decided it would have a better vantage point on the roof.

Thamesmere from Morrisons car park
Taken from the edge of the car park at Morrisons, Thamesmere makes a pleasant contrast to all the tarmac. Barking Creek Barrier can be seen beyond, on the other side of the River Thames.

When you have nine cygnets to feed
When there are nine cygnets to feed it is worth waiting outside Morrisons on Thamesmead. They were not for going back to their lake 100 yards away, despite a member of staff trying to encourage them. Previously an assistant used to lay a trail of bread back to the lake. It seems that they are not allowed now to feed them. The crafty things used to turn up regularly twice a day, knowing they would be fed to get them back to the lake. That was before they had the cygnets. Now they have a family to feed I assume they just need to do their shopping. See also https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/5181273

Did you remember the ? for the trolley?
These two are seen outside Morrisons at Thamesmead every day at about 11.15 and again at 3.15. People have taken photographs of them in the past and said that they were the new security guards. They come from the nearby lake and they know that a member of staff will come out and tell them to stay where they are and then goes and fetches some bread to lure them back to the lake. He either lays a trail for them to follow or like today waves the bag of bread at them which they then waddle after. This was the 11.15 excursion and everyone knows they will be back again mid afternoon.
