Merton Road
Cul de sac at the end of Carmichael Road, built in the c.1990s on a former corporation yard and railway lands. Earlier maps up to the 1930s show a church on the site.

Croydon: Disused stairway
This stairway which is quite disused and not accessible from either end, can be seen at the 'dead end' northeast end of Towpath Way. At the top of the steps is Tennison Road, as it bridges the railway which lies over to the left. It takes an incredible FIFTEEN MINUTES to walk from where the photographer is standing, to reach Tennison Road at the top of the steps. Just after I had taken this photograph, a youth put his life and limb at risk by climbing the iron fence from Tennison Road, leaping onto the pipe, and thence jumping down onto the waste ground.
These steps could easily be reconditioned and brought back into use, allowing residents at this end of Towpath Way to access the Tennison Road shops.

From the north side of Tennison Road, these steps lead down to Merton Road below. We are still in the Borough of Croydon here, but postally, it's London SE25.

Croydon: Blind shot looking south from the bridge on Tennison Road
The steel fencing on the bridge parapet where Tennison Road crosses the railway is too high to see over, so this image had to be obtained by holding the camera over my head and shooting 'blind'. On the left we see the north end of Towpath Way, seen also on Image, then further right the railway, where Selhurst Car Sheds are just out of shot at the right hand edge. In the distance are seen the tall buildings of central Croydon.

Tenison Road bridge, from the train
The bridge carrying Tenison Road over the railway has unused, "extra" arches on either side of the railway lines, which used to straddle the lines into and out of Norwood shunting yard.
