Surrey Quays station and the East London Line
After being closed for nearly three years since 2007 the East London Line is about to re-open. This is the newly refurbished Surrey Quays station viewed from the Cope Street bridge. The track is laid on individual concrete plinths on a concrete base rather than on the traditional sleepers on ballast. The station opened in 1869 as Deptford Road, was re-named Surrey Docks in 1911, and became Surrey Quays in 1989. Image are the towerblocks visible in the distance.

Surrey Quays Station
This station was originally opened as Deptford Road in 1869, becoming Surrey Docks in 1911. The name was controversially changed to the more sanitised Surrey Quays in 1989, reflecting the name of a new shopping centre. It was closed as part of London underground's East London Line in 2007, reopening in 2010 as a part of the London Overground network.
