Peckham Rye station
Peckham Rye has a large and imposing station building, which unfortunately cannot be photographed or even seen properly because of other tall buildings just in front of it. This view gives just a taste.

The first part to open was the platform area on the far left, opened by the London Chatham & Dover railway in 1865. These platforms were opened by the London Brighton & South Coast Railway in 1886. View north east towards Queens Road Peckham and London Bridge.

Peckham Rye Station
Designed by Charles Henry Driver the station opened in December 1865. Initially it was served by the London, Chatham & Dover Railway. The London, Brighton & South Coast Railway connected to the station in August the following year. It remains to this day a station with two separate sides. The pleasing aspect of the main station building is sadly obscured from pedestrians on Rye Lane by more recent retail developments.

Rye Lane SE15 (1)
Just outside Peckham Rye Station. This picture is representative of much of the length of Rye Lane -- there are more Halal butchers, fresh fish shops, greengrocers and independent food shops than you ever imagined possible. Most of the shops are aimed at the local African and Caribbean population, so you will find yams, dried fish, snails, cows feet, tripe, pigs tails, cornmeal, plantains and much else that's not on offer at your local supermarket. This link takes you to a picture slightly further South. http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/221993

Peckham Rye station: between the viaducts
Peckham Rye station comprises two separate viaducts with the station building (on the extreme right in this picture) lying between them forming the link. (This reflects its origin as a station shared by two separate railway companies: the London, Chatham and Dover on the northern viaduct, and the London, Brighton and South Coast on the southern one.) Here the view is from a train stopped on the southern viaduct (at an island platform which thus lies behind the photographer), heading into London Bridge (to the right), looking across at the line running from Kent (to the right) into Victoria (to the left). The area between is used by light industry based in the viaduct arches.
