Cobbler's house in Church Lane
The name 'Ty Man Crydd' on the wall of the stone house indicates that it must once have been a shoemaker's workshop/home.

Graves in churchyard, Eglwyswrw
The churchyard surrounding the church is elevated above the road at the western end. One of the many possible etymologies suggested for the name of the village is Eglwys-hwrwg, church on a hillock.

Eglwyswrw church
This Victorian reconstruction of an more modest earlier building is dedicated to Christiolus, a 7th century Welsh saint, although the name of the village, Eglwyswrw, is often translated as 'Wrw's church'. (However there may be an alternative explanation for the name, see Image) The saint's day, November 3, was traditionally celebrated in the parish.

Parish Church, Eglwyswrw: view from west
The parish name probably means "church of the Virgin", but the church is dedicated to the obscure 6th-century Welsh saint Cristiolus. The church enclosure is circular (except from a bit eaten away on the north boundary) and typical of very early (6th century?) foundation, perhaps on a pre-christian site. However, the church was rebuilt in 1883, and shows little earlier detail.
