Looking south towards North Carlton. Some of the original buildings associated with the colliery appear to be still standing though as this picture shows there is currently a large derelict area.

Firbeck Main colliery
This colliery is one of main that dotted this landscape many years ago.
It was a large mine with the usual two shafts and associated buildings, there was a specially built spur to connect with the freight railway South Yorkshire Joint Railway (one of the most profitable in England).
The mine employed lots of people and the village of Langold was created for the mine. It is said 1 house a week went up at the peak or building.

Firbeck Main colliery
The colliery seen here is derelict and waiting for demolition or restoration (unlikely). The colliery had a short life compared to the others in the area (like Harworth) as there was geological problems (Faults I think).
However its buildings survived them all (apart from Harworth which closed in 2006 and is mothballed)
