Nether Edge Bowling Club - Club House
Opened in 1867 ... and not just for Bowls ... Croquet, Snooker and Scrabble are available too, with a Folk Club and Cabaret on some nights. The Bowling Green is huge and is usually split in half with a rope and flags - as can be seen on some photos. On the day of these photos two Bowls games would be played ... sometimes it is one Bowls game on the bottom half and Croquet on the top half which has its own little Club House. Occasionally the whole green is opened up and Big Green Bowls matches are played.

Nether Edge Bowling Club - Bowling Green and Spectator's Shelter

Nether Edge as seen from Meersbrook Avenue
The image is taken from halfway up Meersbrook Avenue, looking North West across Chesterfield Road, towards Nether Edge. The hill on the horizon is the area around Fulwood and Broomhill. The large white tower block on the hill is the old Forte Posthouse Hotel in Fulwood.
