Flyover at Gallows Corner
This temporary looking flyover has been here a very long time now, and has been successful in taking the A127 (Southend Arterial Road) traffic away from the busy roundabout on the A12. There are or were similar structures at Chelmsford across the old A12 at the Army and Navy roundabout and on the A13 at Barking. This last has been removed as the A13 has been generally improved with proper grade separated junctions.

Gallows Corner
Where the A12 and the A127, the Southend Arterial Road, part company. The A127 optionally avoids the roundabout by using the rather make-shift looking flyover, which nevertheless has been here a very long time now.

Roundabout on Gallows Corner, Harold Wood
The flyover on the right was supposed to be temporary when it was built and has lasted getting on for 50 years and going strong.

View of Main Road from Gallows Corner Roundabout
This is the same view as http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1466211, but this time viewed from ground level. The lamp post in shot is a Philips MA50 on a 1970s bracket which I'm rather fond of!

View of Main Road from Gallows Corner Flyover
The view looking in the other direction on Gallows Corner Flyover isn't quite so spectacular - all you get is this view of the A118 Main Road, the road which leads into Romford town centre. Note again how this classes as Gidea Park whilst just a few yards behind me the flyover is classed as Harold Wood.

View of Straight Road from Gallows Corner Flyover
This is a response to John Winfield's
Image, taken from high above where he took the photo on the nearby Gallows Corner flyover which features in his image. I have sharpened the image slightly as it was a little blurred, which I could tell especially by the lamp posts in shot. What strikes me as rather strange here on Geograph is that this first half of the flyover is classed as Gidea Park while the other half is classed as Harold Wood, meaning the flyover is right on the border of two places! View taken looking north-northeast.

Gidea Park
The small Gidea Park is located just to the west of Gallows Corner and is sandwiched between the A12 (Eastern Avenue East) and the A118 (Main Road). The noisy A12 is to the right here.
