Rochdale: Town Centre
Looking west from the bottom of Drake Street, the works are underway to open out the river Roch through the Town Centre. Although it will probably look very nice when finished, the general public are fed up with the mess and inconvenience.

"Revealing The Roch", The Butts
The work to uncover the River Roch in Rochdale Town Centre is making good progress. The Revealing the Roch project is uncovering two sections of the river, and will expose the historic bridge, parts of which can be traced back to the medieval period. The bridge and sections of river being exposed (on The Butts in front of the HSBC Bank and on the Esplanade close to Barclays Bank) were covered over in the Victorian period and have been hidden from public view for more than a century.

River Roch exposed
Rochdale has just finished work on uncovering the River Roch in the centre of Rochdale. River covered when tramlines were laid about 1900. Bridge is very old.

Rochdale: The 'Wellington' hotel
Closed and rapidly deteriorating, the 'Wellington', probably Rochdale's oldest pub, stands at the bottom of Drake Street to view a scene of untidy confusion as tram lines are laid leading from Drake Street into the new terminus which will be on Smith Street. Rochdale's residents are heartily fed up with the seemingly incessant tram works; one hopes they will, one day, think it has all been worthwhile.

Rochdale: The 'Wellington Hotel'
It is pleasing to see that the Wellington (one of the oldest public houses in Rochdale) has had a start made on its revival. Although still closed, this does appear to suggest that it might be re-opened.
